Pre-Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)

PAR-Q

PAR-Q is an abbreviation of Pre-Activity Readiness Questionnaire. The PAR-Q is designed primarily to identify individuals whereby physical activity may be inappropriate, such as a medical condition that might make it inadvisable to perform physical activity. In this instance, the client will have to seek medical approval first. Considering the aforementioned, the PAR-Q is a must for most gyms and instructors, as it's the first line of legal defense should the worst ever happen. From a more general training point of view, the questions asked on a PAR-Q can help identify a healthy or unhealthy individual, medical issues to be aware of, an appropriate training structure and goal setting.

Whatever course or country you've completed your fitness instructor or personal training qualification, the teaching organisation should supply you with a suggested copy of a PAR-Q with an accompanied disclaimer. They should also be able to suggest a suitable insurer and insurance policy.

The information on this page is an extract from the acclaimed publication Gym Workouts - Maps to Success. A free mock (information only) copy of a PAR-Q can be found at the link below. If you have found this information useful, please support the Gym Professor website by visiting our advertisers.
