Amino Acid - L-Proline

L-Proline

I (GP) thought L-Proline worth a mention, as I've spotted its use within a couple of anti-ageing/ anti-wrinkle products (creams & capsules) of late. Don't worry, I'm not ageing that fast! It's actually the case that the 'anti-wrinkle' market appears to have merged somewhat with the 'sports supplement' market. Some bright spark's clicked how vain the "buff" gym goer actually is :-) and have cast another hook.

Anyway, why L-Proline's inclusion? Simple (in a roundabout way), L-Proline is a precursor, along with Vitamin C, to collagen, accounting for 15% of collagen formation. Btw, encase you're not too sure what a precursor is, a precursor's a chemical that is transformed into another compound - in this instance collagen. So, L-Proline precedes collagen. Subsequently, L-Proline is often sold and promoted with (or similarly to) collagen supplements - for wound healing, cartilage building, joint flexibility, muscle support, anti-wrinkle, anti-ageing etc.

Remember, a varied & balanced diet means that you're highly unlikely to be deficient in L-Proline.

Food sources: Meat, dairy products, and eggs.
